Perry Avgerinos, otherwise known as Kilo, is a DJ straight out of University of Miami. Starting with remixes on Soundcloud and some live DJing around Miami, Kilo learned how to produce like a pro. After graduating in 2019 he has brought his passion for music to another level, dropping two singles [1. Highway ft. Tropix and Ian Matthews 2. Back On My ft. Tima Dee] and playing live shows across the East Coast. I had the opportunity to speak with Kilo this summer to get to know him more and see what he has in store for us in the future. Here’s a little of what I learned:
What brought you to producing? Why did you get involved with music in the first place?
Kind of started as an accident. My friend in 7th grade and I wanted to start a rap duo group for fun. Shortly realizing I couldn’t rap (lol), I was like how about I produce and you rap. So I downloaded a software to make beats called FL Studio and once I started messing around I fell in love with it.
Can you think back to the first moment you decided you wanted to fully pursue music as a career?
It was going into my freshmen year at UMiami when I thought, ok I wanna do this legitimately. However, I kind of lost my way a little with all the distractions of college and the doubt that naturally comes when starting off as an artist. I never quit music, but it didn’t seem super realistic to me until my senior year, in 2019, I really focused in on the music and the brand with the help of my manager, Noah, and now I think I’m on a good path to get to where I want to be as an artist.
Who are some of your major musical influencers?
Throttle, Medasin, Retrovision, Niko The Kid
Do you have any work coming out soon? Where and when can we find your next shows?
I’m playing at the House of Blues Aug 3rd, and will have some shows this fall.. stay tuned for those. Also will be releasing a ton of new singles this fall, and a new mix too.
Anything you’d like your audience to look out for when they’re listening to a kilo song?
Fun fact, but in the beginning of every one of my songs, there’s my signature “key drop” sound effect. You may or may not have noticed it before, but this is my version of a producer tag and my way of saying “hey I made this”.
What’s your favorite page on IG?
I really like @samverbisky on Insta. He’s the photographer/videographer for Throttle and his content is amazing. Def check him out.
What scares you most about what you do every day?
My hearing lol. I have ear plugs I wear most of the time, but sometimes I don’t have them on me.
Out of 10, how much do you believe in yourself?
10. Gotta believe in yourself 100 percent or else why would any?
